Research Corner
The Dermatology research team, Dr. Nahar, Dr. Huynh, research fellow Dr. Callie Cross, and multiple residents have been busy this year with multiple projects, presentations, and conferences. Callie presented a poster on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices in Urticaria Care: A Review of Patient and Physician Insights at the 6th Inflammatory Skin Disease Summit in New York City in November. At the 11th Annual Southern Dermatology Consortium Resident Research Day, resident Mark Albrecht (PGY-2), defended his prior title and earned 2nd place for his oral presentation, Sun Protection in the Deep South: Understanding and Predicting Adult Sunscreen Use Through the Multi-Theory Model, and Summer Morrissette (PGY-3) came in 2nd place in the Resident Kahoot Board Review Session. Research trainees Callie, Mark, and Summer remained highly active at AAD 2026 with multiple poster and oral presentations spanning teledermatology, CTCL-associated pruritus, and social media influences on atopic dermatitis care. Callie also gave an oral presentation on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices in Psychodermatology: A Survey of Dermatology Nurses in the United States at the 34th Annual Meeting of Association for Psychocutaneous Medicine of North America, with an accompanying publication in Journal of Investigative Dermatology. Dr. Huynh presented on clinical pearls in pediatric dermatology at AAD and on sunscreen perceptions in the Deep South at the Women’s Dermatologic Society Forum in San Antonio, TX. Additional scholarly contributions include presentations by Dr. Huynh at the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery in Savannah, GA (Laser Focused on Social Media: Evaluating the Perception of Laser Use in Pediatric Dermatology Across Social Media Platforms), Symposium for Cosmetic Advances and Laser Education (Sephora Kids and Skincare).
The Novaritis RECHARGE-1 study with oral remibrutinib for hidradenitis suppurativa and Incyte TRuE-AD5 study with topical ruxolitinib for atopic dermatitis are ongoing, however recruitment and enrollment is now closed. Additionally, there is a CorEvitas Adolescent Alopecia Areata registry study that is active with open enrollment.
